Simon Bickerton is a Professor within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Director of the Centre for Advanced Composite Materials at the University of Auckland. He gained his PhD in 1998 from the Centre for Composite Materials, University of Delaware. From 1999 to 2011 he developed as an academic at the University of Auckland, before in 2012 taking up a three year secondment to the BMW Group, Munich, Germany. There he worked within the department responsible for manufacture of structural carbon fibre parts, with focus on the BMW Project i and the latest release of BMW’s 7-series sedan. Since returning to the University of Auckland, his research focusses on both novel novel processing and supporting industrialisation of composites manufacturing.
